Project templates

A recurring project, like a website? You don't have to recreate the same stages, sections and tasks every time. Save them once as a template, and next time you just pick it. Templates are part of PRO.

What a template remembers

  • Stages – the board's columns, their order and type.
  • Tags, sections and packages.
  • Tasks – title, description, time estimate, priority, tags and the stage they belong to.
  • Project description and hourly rate.

A template doesn't remember team members, task assignees, attachments, comments or the client. You pick those separately for each project.

Template from an existing project

The fastest way is from a project you've already set up well.

  1. Open Projects and on the project card, click the Save as template icon.
  2. Enter a Template name and pick a color.
  3. Untick anything that doesn't belong in the template, for example tasks that were only for this client.
  4. Click Save template.

Tasks from completed stages move, in the template, to the first stage that isn't completed. So a new project doesn't start out with tasks that are already done.

The project's owner or an admin can save it as a template.

Template from scratch

  1. On the Projects page, click Templates, then New template.
  2. Fill in the Template name, and optionally the Project description and Hourly rate.
  3. Under Stages, adjust the board columns, and under Tags, add tags.
  4. Under Content, add sections, packages and tasks. For a task, you set the stage, priority, estimate in hours, tags and description. Drag items by the icon on the left to reorder them.
  5. Click Save.

You have to name any section or package that contains tasks, otherwise you can't save the template.

New project from a template

  1. On the Projects page, click Add project.
  2. At the top, in the Start from row, pick a template. The description, hourly rate and stages get pre-filled, and a Project content step appears.
  3. In the Project content step, untick what you don't need in this project, and adjust the rest. Unticking a section or package unticks everything inside it too.
  4. Pick a client and click Save project.

You can also create a project from a template straight from the templates list, via the Create project icon on the template card.

Tip

Changes in the Project content step only apply to the new project. The template itself doesn't change, and editing a template later doesn't change projects already created from it.

If you delete a stage in the Settings step, its tasks move to the first stage. If the template has a tag or section with the same name repeated, for example Front and front, only one is created in the project.

Managing templates

You'll find all your templates on the Projects page, under the Templates button. On a template's card, you can Edit, Duplicate or Delete it. Deleting a template doesn't affect projects already created from it.

Only you can see your templates. People you share projects with don't see them.
