The Vault is where you keep passwords, access credentials, and other sensitive project info. You'll find it in the project menu under Vault.
How it's protected
The Vault is encrypted end-to-end. Your data gets encrypted right in your browser using your master password, and only the encrypted version is sent to the server. We can't read it ourselves, which also means we can't recover your master password for you.
First time opening it
The first time you open the Vault, you'll set up a master password. frego will generate a recovery key for you at that point. It's shown only once, so make sure to copy or download it and store it somewhere safe. It's the only way to get back into the Vault if you forget your master password.
Items and sharing
For each item, you choose its Visibility:
- Only me – only you can see it.
- Whole team – project members can see it. The project owner sends them the key once via Share keys.
A member with the Client role can also add items to the project's Vault, so they can send you access details securely instead of over email.
Changing your password and recovery
In Settings → Vault, you can change your master password using Change master password, or generate a new recovery key. Doing so will invalidate the old key.
If you forget your password, click Forgot password on the unlock screen:
- with your recovery key, you can set a new password and keep everything,
- without it, you can only reset the Vault.
Heads upResetting permanently deletes your personal items. For shared vaults, project owners will need to send you access again. frego will let them know.
FREE or PRO
The Vault is part of the PRO plan belonging to whoever created the project. Once PRO ends, you can still view existing items, but you won't be able to add new ones.
