Calls

You don't have to take notes during a call with a client. Record it, have it transcribed, and AI tells you what the call was about, what you agreed on and what needs to be done. It sorts everything by project.

Recording

Start a new call in Calls with New call, with the R key anywhere in the app, in a project under Materials & quotes with Record a call, or in the detail of an event. Choose where the sound comes from:

  • Microphone - a call at your desk or a phone on speaker.
  • Call in browser - Google Meet, Zoom or Teams in a browser tab. Both the tab's sound and your microphone are recorded.
  • Upload a file - a finished audio or video recording (mp3, m4a, mp4, mov, wav, webm, mkv or ogg, up to 2 GB).

Call in browser works only in Chrome or Edge on a computer. When you pick the tab with the call, turn on Also share tab audio below it, otherwise only your microphone is recorded. Use headphones, otherwise the microphone picks up the other side a second time.

While you record, a red dot with a timer shows in the header. You can pause or stop the recording there and keep working in the app in the meantime. The recording keeps going when you switch to another tab, for example the one with the call. It is sent in parts as it goes. If the connection drops or the browser closes, the unsent parts stay saved in the browser, and after you reload the page or the next time you sign in, we offer to finish them.

A call can be up to 4 hours long, and the sound from the microphone or the browser can be up to 500 MB. On FREE you can have 1 unfinished recording at a time, on PRO up to 3. Start another one once you finish one of them.

While recording, the header shows whether sound is coming from the microphone and from the tab. If there is no sound from the microphone for more than 1 minute or from the tab for more than 2 minutes, or the recording has loud noise or distorted sound, we warn you: a ⚠ appears in the Frego tab title and, if browser notifications are allowed, you also get a system notification while another tab is open. You allow it with the Allow notifications button in the new call dialog. You will also see these places later next to the transcript.

Tip

Let the other side know that you are recording the call.

Video

With Call in browser you can turn on Record video too in the new call window. Besides the sound, the picture of what you share is recorded as well - the tab, a window or the whole screen, without the camera. The video has at most 720p (1280 × 720 pixels) and 15 frames per second, an hour takes about 350 MB. We remember your choice for the next call. When you have less than about 350 MB of storage left, we warn you, but you can still record.

When the shared tab sends no sound and you pick Record just the microphone, the picture is still recorded, only the sound comes from your microphone alone.

The video of one call can be up to 4 GB. Once it gets there, only the picture stops and the sound keeps recording. On FREE the picture also stops when your storage fills up during the recording. You see the message "Your storage is full. Only the sound is recorded from now on." and from that point the call is recorded with sound only.

After the call the video is processed, which can take a while for a long call. Meanwhile the call detail shows The video is being processed… and you can already play the sound. We let you know when the video is ready. The call detail then plays the video and clicking a time in the transcript jumps to that moment in the video. If the video can't be processed, the sound, the transcript and the analysis stay and keep working. If your browser can't play the video, the sound plays instead. Re-encoding a long video (for example an iPhone video in HEVC or a long recording that has to be re-encoded) may not fit the time limit. The video then isn't processed, while the sound and the transcript stay.

When you upload a video file (mp4, mov, mkv or webm, up to 2 GB), both the picture and its original sound are kept. The transcript and the analysis always work with the sound.

Client, projects and event

You can link a call to a client, to any number of projects and to an event in your calendar. None of it is required, and you can change the links later in the call detail. When you pick a client, their projects are offered first.

Transcript

After the call, click Transcribe. A transcript costs 1 AI credit for every started 10 minutes, and you see the price right on the button. The text is split into parts of 5 minutes, and each part has a time; click it to play the recording from the start of that part. You can also correct the transcript by hand or replace it with your own, for example one from another tool.

Before transcribing, pick the Call language. The default is Automatic: the AI recognizes the language itself. Next in the list is the language of the app, then the others (Slovak, Czech, English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Hungarian, Polish and Ukrainian). If the call began with noise or several languages were spoken, automatic recognition can get it wrong. Choose the call language then and the transcript will be more accurate.

When the transcript looks incomplete (a part has little text, the same sentence repeats or it is in another language), you see a warning above the transcript with the specific parts. You can Transcribe again with another language or Edit transcript and paste your own. You can still run the analysis, we just ask you once more.

Analysis

Click Analyze (5 AI credits). You can add a note about what the AI should focus on. You get:

  • What the call was about - a summary, who spoke, and the shared agreements, questions and key facts,
  • a card for each project with a summary, agreements, open questions and proposed tasks,
  • an Unassigned card with the tasks where the AI was not sure about the project.

When the AI recognizes another of your projects that came up in the call, it offers to link it with Link project. You can move proposed tasks to another project or drop them. You can run the analysis again, for example with a different note. If the transcript is too long to analyze, the analysis doesn't start and no credits are taken. More about credits in AI credits.

Tasks from the call

You can create tasks only from an analyzed call. On a project's card, click Create tasks, pick a column, and the familiar task import window opens. Adjust the tasks there and confirm them. The tasks created from the call then show under the project's card.

Additions to existing tasks

If the call was about a task that already exists in the project, the AI does not propose a new task but an addition to the existing one. You'll find them in the project card under "Additions to existing tasks". You can edit the text, change the task, or turn the addition into a new task. Even for a proposed new task you can choose "Add to an existing task" and pick the task by name or column.

The Add comments button writes the additions as your comments on the tasks. If the call is shared with the project, the comment contains a link to the call, otherwise just its name. The quote from the transcript is not included in the comment. If you made a mistake, click Undo on a written addition: the comment is removed from the task and you can edit the addition and write it again.

Who sees what

Only you see the transcript and What the call was about. For each linked project, under What each project can see, you set Analysis and Share recording separately.

Analysis decides who in the project sees the part of the analysis for that project: Private (only you), Team or Team and client. They find it in the project under Materials & quotes, but only once the call has been analyzed. Nobody on the team sees another project's part. Members who have archived the project for themselves don't see the shared parts of calls in it.

Share recording decides who can play the recording itself: Private (only you), Team (the project's admins and coworkers) or Team + client (every project member, clients included). A newly linked project starts with Private. The members you share the recording with find it in the project's cloud in the Call recordings folder. They can play and download it, but they can't delete it, and it doesn't show them the transcript or the analysis. Once the video is ready, the video is shared, otherwise the sound.

Calls someone else shares with you are in the calls list on the Shared with me tab. A link to a call that someone sends you works too. It shows you only what they share with you: the recording and the parts of the analysis for your projects, never the transcript or other projects.

When you unlink the project from the call or set Private, they can't open the recording again. If they had it open right then, it may keep playing or downloading for up to 60 minutes. When you leave a project, the call is unlinked from it.

The recording and your storage

The recording (sound and video) stays until you delete it and counts towards your storage, also when you share it with a project. You can see the size of the sound and the video together in the list of calls and in the call detail. All your recordings are also in Cloud in the Call recordings folder.

When the call isn't being recorded or processed, you have two options in the call detail or in the Call recordings folder:

  • Delete video - deletes only the picture. The sound, the transcript and the analysis stay and you can transcribe the call again.
  • Delete recording - deletes the sound and the video. The transcript, the analysis and the tasks stay, you just can't play the recording anymore, it disappears from the project's cloud and you can't transcribe the call again.

When you delete the whole call, the recording goes too.

When your storage is full, you can't start a new call or upload a file. A recording that's already running finishes and is saved, on FREE with sound only from that point. More in Cloud and files.

FREE or PRO

On FREE you can record calls with video too, upload files, link calls to a client, projects and an event, share recordings with a project, and play, download and delete them in the Call recordings folders. FREE has 1 GB of storage, which is roughly 3 hours of video. The differences from PRO:

  • On FREE you can have 1 unfinished recording at a time, on PRO 3.
  • On FREE the picture stops when your storage fills up during a recording, the sound is recorded to the end.
  • The transcript, the analysis and creating tasks from a call are PRO only and spend AI credits: a transcript costs 1 credit for every started 10 minutes, an analysis 5 credits. More in AI credits.

When PRO ends, you still see your calls, transcripts and analyses and you can record new calls, but you can't start a new transcript or analysis or create tasks with Create tasks. More in When PRO ends.
